DANIELLE WEEKSLER

My first time in U.S.A, was full of events and good signs.

One of them happened completely at random….just like all signs happen.

My friend Lauren decided to take me to Charleston, in South Carolina, the pretty historical city on the ocean,

She booked a beautiful hotel; we had good food in nice restaurants, we went to visit plantations, we saw alligators in the swamp. We talked, walked and laughted a lot.

Walking in the city centre we passed in front of a kitchen store. The shop had two large glass windows at a corner. We stopped behind the glass to look inside, as we both are interested in cooking. The store was large, with stands full of nice kitchen tools at the entrance; there was a long counter at the bottom with the stove and ovens, some tv monitors hanging from the ceiling. In the tv a cooking was was being performed.

  • Oh! I know those people! – I said
  • I bet… they are famous…on TV…- Lauren replied
  • Actually I am not talking about the people on TV, I am talking about the people moving around the counter

At the same moment, the young lady at the bottom looked outside, toward the street window. She saw us. She opened wide her eyes and screemed:

  • Marcellaaaaa!

I screemed:

  • Danielle!

She started to run in the store toward the entrance door, while people were making space and staring at ther. I took a rush, opened the door and we found ourselves in the arms on each other. People started to smile and cry at the same time, taken by our same emotion. Like in one of those TV shows where people meet after many years they haven’t seen.

this is the photo I found in my album: it was 2004 and still we used to print them…..

It was not not many years before. Just a few months. She attended with me a cooking course at the institute where I was teaching in Florence, Tuscany. But i was not expecting to find her ( or anyone else, in such a big Country!) also because she was supposed to be in California… at the opposite side. She was called to be hired by the kitchen store, which was in reality a cooking school, because of her studies in Italy. She was hired to cover the position of director!!

  • Because of you!

Danielle said. – it is your merit. –

I don’t know if it was my merit. I taught her some cooking….We all know that it is the full amount of our experiences that directs our lives. I might have been a little one.

For sure that was a good sign for me: since then I have been in the States several times. And, guess what! ………any time some coincidence, syncronism, some good meeting, some good sign happens to me.
