I WAS ABOUT TO FORGET ABOUT IT…..

Yes, sometimes we forget why we are doing what we are doing.

I found this writing on a piece of paper attached to the cover of an old diary of mine. I don’t know who wrote it, it’s not my handwriting. A friend, certainly. Someone who wanted to remind me of the reason for my profession and encourage me because I am on the right path.

I was forgetting about it. I was – and still am – too busy with the “daily business”, with lists that I won’t list and also with the contradictions of our country, which one day fascinates us as only Italy can do and the next day throws us into despair .

We food workers, from producers to gatherers, breeders, producers of wines, cheeses, flours or fine dishes, we workers of the show which is represented from breakfast to herbal tea at night, we are among those small businesses that still keep “the “up” our country. Some called us “warriors”, others “heroic workers”. Most of the time we started out of passion, for a true “belief” and we continued because we remained prisoners in the gears of bureaucracy, forgetting about our creativity and using our energy only to extricate ourselves from the “system”.

Well, I was saying, I was about to forget why I’m here doing what I do.

Yet the only way to win is precisely this: to believe, to pursue goodness, to remain human.

In my case: making good food known, enjoying it and staying healthy.

I have decided that I need to retrace my steps backwards, return to the starting point and work on the reasons for my being here and now. I have decided. The new path has no limits.

When we no longer have good food in the world,

we will no longer have literature,

nor high intellect,

nor friendly meetings,

nor social harmony.
