THE WINE BOYS

They are not only ones. But it is also thanks to them that the cultivation of vines has, once again, become a prominent activity in Giglio.

Simone e Giovanni Rossi.

It must be said that it is more difficult to take courage and start such an adventure if you do not have their body! The land is low, they say…

And these lands are … uphill, made of stairs, terraces of dry stone walls with the the ground in the past carried in bags on the shoulders or on donkey’s back. The island of Giglio is all terraced, even in the most inaccessible and vertical places. A sign that in the past it was self-sufficient, as indeed it needed to be. Everything was grown there: vegetables, legumes, cereals. Reusing these “greppe” is to give honor to those who for centuries forged the island and the life that flowed there in the only possible way.

Francesco, Simone’s father-in-law, was also dragged into this activity. He pretends to grumble ….

…..and in the meantime he takes care of the vineyard.

This is the “La Fontuccia” vineyard and the wine that comes out of it, strong with sun and salt, is already famous throughout the world.

Congratulations Guys and Thanks, thank you for loving our land like this.
